RAISE THE STANDARD by Bill Burns

This message is based on a prophetic dream I had.

The Dream
In the dream I was at a prophetic conference. One of the men ministering at the conference was someone that I had listened to before. He was someone I knew to be a man of God with keen spiritual insight. During the break I ran into the man of God, and I said: “I know you are busy, so in one minute I want you to tell me what the Spirit of the Lord is saying to God’s people. And, this is what he said: “It is a time in which one must raise the standard – establish your banner.”

So, I want to take what was said and bring understanding to God’s instruction so that we may be equipped by the Spirit of the Lord for this present season.

Biblical Definitions
A banner – a flag, ensign, streamer or emblem attached to the end of a standard (pole). Banners served as rallying points for military, nation, or religious purposes. Four large banner-bearing standards (one on each of the four sides of the tabernacle of meeting) were used by the twelve tribes of Israel during their wilderness journeys. A smaller standard or banner was used by each separate tribe.

Banners identified each tribe and symbolized God’s presence to help His people win the victory. Each of us has established a spiritual banner that identifies who we are in the Lord and His purpose for us, i.e. the symbol of an eagle and horse (conference banner).

Banners (standards) are God’s idea:

Numbers 2:1-2 And the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:
"Everyone of the children of Israel shall camp by his own standard, beside the emblems of his father’s house; they shall camp some distance from the tabernacle of meeting.

Each of the twelve tribes of Israel displayed standards (banners) that identified themselves.
Psalm 60:4 You have given a banner to those who fear You, That it may be displayed because of the truth.

The Lord’s Banner
Jehovah-Nissi – the Lord is my banner of victory.

Exodus 17:
13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven."
15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, The–LORD–Is–My–Banner;
16 for he said, "Because the LORD has sworn: the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation."

Amalek: “dweller in the valley”, represents Satan’s demons who dwell in our valley experiences, but the Lord’s banner is victory is maintained from generation to generation.

The Hebrew word for standard (degel –deh’gel) means to look, to behold, to set up (faith for victory). The standard of the Cross.

Colossians 2:15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

Song of Solomon 2:4 He brought me to the banqueting house, And his banner over me was love.

Victory in the valley.
Psalm 23:4-5 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

Isaiah 49:22 Thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I will lift My hand in an oath to the nations, And set up My standard for the peoples; They shall bring your sons in their arms, And your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.

Isaiah 11:10 "And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, Who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him, And His resting place shall be glorious."

Isaiah 18:3 All inhabitants of the world and dwellers on the earth: When he lifts up a banner on the mountains, you see it; And when he blows a trumpet, you hear it.

Signs In The Natural

In the Olympics, the banners of the winners of the metals are displayed above them when they stand on the platform to receive their medals. The flag (banner) identifies the country that they represent. The winners bring honor to the country that they represent.

Our Banner identifies who we represent, and we too should bring honor to the Kingdom of God and our King, Jesus.

The Spirit of the Lord has said, “It is time to raise the standard and establish our banner – the banner of victory.” And, this we can do if we will establish the standard of faith that the banner of victory is attached to. And, the victories that we achieve will bring honor to the Kingdom that we represent.

“Raise the standard!”
