Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.
Acts 4:13
We have all been called to be witnesses for Christ, so what are we waiting on? If we wait until we get ourselves all cleaned up and have obtained all that men require, will we ever be ready? So many times, we forget that we can’t earn this by ourselves and we will never work ourselves clean in His sight. He doesn’t even want us to. These are not the things He called us to do anyway. He called us to love Him and obey His commands. He told us to love each other as He loved us and to be obedient to the leading of His Holy Spirit. If we’re not doing these things, we’re simply not following Him. God knows what is wrong with us; He knows how messed up we are and how broken our sin has made us; and He wants to use us anyway. We are the ones He said would be witnesses to Him; the broken hearted, beaten down, sinners that we are. Even though we carry the scars of many earthly battles, Jesus’ blood has washed us clean. Even though He knows us and sees the things we try so desperately to hide. Even still, He loves us because He is God. He loves us because He went to the cross so we could have a way to overcome all things. Not for our own glory, but for His. Not for our own selfish pursuits, but for His honor. Jesus’ death made us whole, so it’s not possible by our education or titles, our desire or our talent. Our effective witness is possible only by the affect that Jesus has on and in our lives. If we believe these things; when we believe these things, others know we have been with Jesus.
