Do you remember how simple your Christianity was in the beginning? Love is like that -- uncomplicated, simple devotion.
Relationships create complexities. Why? We want to exercise our will and have it our own way. We build in regulations, boundaries, personal demands, expectations, conditions, and justifications.
Some of us need to start all over again. These are some simple commands of Jesus Christ:
COME! Matthew 11:28 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
We don’t ask Christ to come to us in our flesh and selfishness and pride; we go to where He is in spirit.
Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
What are we coming for? The water of life! Eternal life, here and now and forever!
We have to come to feed on Him (the Word) in Spirit, to partake of His nature, to be sustained by His covenant promises. He IS the WAY, the TRUTH, the LIFE.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
SIT! Ephesians 2: 4-7 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
We come and park ourselves in Him.
Luke 10: 38-42 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."
Sit until you hear His word--either His still, small voice in your spirit, or by His written word, or by signs and wonders, or by circumstances, or by a prophetic word, or by a sermon preached. Pay attention to what God is speaking to you. Don’t wander off on your own away from His guidance and direction. Refuse to be distracted by what troubles and worries you!
STAY! Stay defined: abide, dwell, sit, inhabit, remain, continue.
Pslam 125:1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
John 6:56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.
John 15:4-5 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit, for without Me you can do nothing.
1 Peter 1:23 You have been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.
1 John 2:6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
1 John 2:17 The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
1 John 2:24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
What do we abide in? His glory! What is His glory? His honor, His reputation, His splendor, His abundance. His character, His nature, His power -- all that He IS.
Come! Sit!! Stay!
