You live in a spiritually charged atmosphere that is a specific environment that affects you in the same way that your physical environment does. However, most Christians are totally unaware that these environments affect them.
Ancient Curses Ezekiel 36 describes the land that is under the ancient curses of the enemy. These curses create a negative atmosphere that the enemy can work in. Satan works in spiritual atmospheres of darkness and negativity. Houses, cities, counties, states, and nations have spiritual atmospheres that have been created by the events that have taken place in them.
Personal Atmospheres Each of us has created an atmosphere around ourselves that is our environment. It can be good or bad to our well-being. If we are negative, then the atmosphere is one of darkness that gives Satan the right to work in.
If our environment has been positively charged by our attitudes and faith in God, then we have created a healthy environment where God’s blessings will manifest.
The Power of Emotion Our emotions are key when it comes to establishing spiritual environments – either positive or negative. Emotion establishes the “right of rule” over our environment.
The apostle Paul tells the Corinthians that emotions (affections) can establish restrictions. 2 Corinthians 6:12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections.
Affections that are wrong can bring defilement; filthiness that makes unclean.
2Corinthians 7:1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
This is why we are told to take our thoughts captive.
2 Corinthians 10:4-6 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
The last fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:23 is self-control. If we control our emotions, which affect our thoughts, which create our “attitudes” we will create a spiritual atmosphere that is positive and therefore faith charged.
Negative Attitudes Numerous negative attitudes are listed in the writings of apostle Paul. Some of these are: jealousy, anger, hatred, coveting, etc. These create strife and contention.
Colossians 3:1-13 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
Fear and Worry These are the opposite of faith and peace. These two “attitudes” create a personal environment of death.
In Matthew 6:30-31 Jesus said if you worry you have little faith. God can only work in an environment of faith.
Fear and worry create an environment charged with unbelief.
Discontentment Discontentment also is a negative attitude that hinders the blessings of God.
1Timothy 6:6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
We create our own spiritual atmosphere, and it either is one that God can work in or one that Satan will work in. Our environment will either be one of darkness or light.
Ephesians 5:13-17 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light." See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Redeem the time by establishing a positive atmosphere. Spend time monitoring our attitudes and changing them and then live the victorious Christian life to its fullest!
